The purpose of this class is to help you better understand your energies and your life experiences.

PARENTHOOD

Astrology provides us with an abundance of information about the human experience; for example, the parent/child relationship. Astrology offers the parent deep insight into his child’s nature, temperament, abilities and talents. The parent who studies astrology and has a Virgo “type” child (Virgo Sun, Moon, ascendant, stellium in the sign of Virgo, a loaded sixth house and/or aspects to the ruling planet Mercury) would know that his child is a perfectionist and does not need undo criticism for the Virgo child is harder on himself than anyone else. These children make themselves miserable when they do not receive that A or come in first place. The role of the parent here is to teach the child that perfection is merely an ideal, and what is really required in life, is to do one’s best. The Virgo child needs and thrives on a regular routine, a healthy life style including physical activity, healthy foods, natural products and fibers. These children tend to be fussy or picky eaters; the solution here is for the parent to engage the child in planning and preparing his meals. In general, Virgos like things to be neat, clean and in order, compliments and applause will encourage this positive behavior. These children have a deep fondness for animals and would enjoy caring after a pet. Virgos are service orientated; Virgo children want to be helpful and need to be given little jobs around the house. Parents of Virgo children need to support the child’s interest in: cooking, gardening and animal husbandry, science, mathematics, reading, hobbies and crafts. Virgos are restless and tend to scatter their energies in many different directions; the role of the parent is to help the child stay disciplined and focused. Virgo children have an innate curiosity about “how things work”? Parents can help the child satisfy his curiosity by providing things that he can disassemble without getting himself into trouble. Some career fields that the Virgos are drawn to are: science, education and technology, food preparation, agriculture and public service, health, fitness and home improvement.

WHY IS THAT?

Both psychologists and psychiatrists have the reputation of asking their patients the classic question, “What do you think about that”? Those professionals working in the mental health fields usually have a strong emphasis in the sign of Scorpio, eighth house and/or several aspects to the planet Pluto. The sign Scorpio represents the investigator, the researcher; the individual who delves into the deep mysteries of life, one of which is the mind.

HEMISPHERES

The sign Aquarius is associated with: that which is unique and different, controversy and nonconformity, unconventional thinking and revolutionary ideas, progress and innovation, eccentricity and individuality; in addition, the unexpected, shocks, surprises and reversals. Astrology is also ruled by the sign Aquarius and could account for the reverse designation of the four hemispheres found in a horoscope wheel. Draw two circles, divide each circle in half; one vertically and the other horizontally. When one looks at a regular map the right side is designated as the East. Well, in a horoscope wheel, the right hemisphere is called the Western hemisphere and the opposite hemisphere is the Eastern. The lower hemisphere is called the Northern hemisphere and its opposite hemisphere is the Southern.

2. The inconjunct is an aspect of 150 degrees with an orb of 2 degrees. This aspect has many meanings, one of which is the need for adjustment; for instance, you are in the mood to have a chocolate ice cream cone, but when you get to the store, they were all out of chocolate ice cream. You can have ice cream, but not the flavor you wanted. Not taking into account the zodiac signs or houses, but just dealing with the planets; the Sun Moon.

The Sun represents the male energy, the ego, career, children and physical vitality, while the Moon represents the female energy, the family, home, tradition and emotions. One can make the supposition that this individual needs to make adjustments between his male side and his female side, his children and his traditions, his career and his family, his physical vitality and his emotions. Astrology is concerned with the timing of events; why things happen when they do? In a horoscope wheel, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses are called angular houses. These four houses represent the four major areas of life; the self, inner security (the home), relationships and security out in the world (career). The angular houses are also cardinal houses which simply means that a great amount of activity takes place. The houses behind the angular houses, the 12^th, 3^rd, 6^th and 9^th are called cadent houses and represent the subconscious, the dark side, “that which we cannot see behind us”. Looking at the world horoscope (natural falling zodiac wheel), Pluto has been transiting the sign of Sagittarius or the 9^th house for the past fourteen years or so. Recently it entered into the sign of Capricorn or the 10^th house. The 10^th house represents “out in the world” and in the public’s eye. Remember, when a planet enters a house, it highlights that house and all the things and people associated with it, also the sign, element, the planet itself and the house it rules. So what have you been hearing in the news lately, scandals concerning the sexual abuse of boys by coaches, members of the U. S. Congress profiting from insider trading information and a presidential candidate accused of sexual misconduct, just to mention a few? These events occurred before Pluto entered into Capricorn. Not until Pluto entered into the 10^th house, an angular house did the public become aware of these events. The sign Capricorn is associated with government and corporate officials; the planet Pluto is associated with sex, power, corruption, joint finances (stock market), trust and betrayal. Notice that Pluto came from the sign Sagittarius which is associated with laws, foreign affairs and higher education (universities).

It is advisable to begin at lesson 1 in order to maximize your understanding of the information contained in this lesson, 20. This class moves at a slow pace, so you can easily catch-up.

IN THE NEWS

Draw or visualize a cross; notice that the cross is made-up of four 90 degree angles, or in astrology we say, four squares. A square represents a stressful or inharmonious aspect between two or more planets. This aspect demands hard work; it represents something we must learn in this life, a life lesson. If you were to take the cross and place it inside the horoscope wheel, you would notice that the cross corresponds to the cusps of the first, fourth, seventh and tenth houses. On the right side of the cross, the end point, draw the glyphs for the planet Saturn and the sign Libra, at the opposing end point draw in the glyphs for Uranus and the sign Aries, at the top of the cross draw the glyphs for the planet Pluto and the sign Capricorn and at the bottom of the cross, draw the glyph for the sign of Cancer. In August, these three planets were all in a low degree of the cardinal signs; Aries, Libra and Capricorn. Both Saturn and Uranus squared Pluto and, at the same time, were also opposing one another. An opposition is an aspect where two or more planets are 180 degrees apart with an orb of 8 degrees. An opposition represents either a conflict, a point of awareness or a decision that has to be made. If you were to turn this cross upside down with these three planets, it would resemble the letter T, and in astrology, this aspect (one opposition with two squares) is called a Cardinal T Square. The planet that is squared by the other two planets is called the focal planet. The function of the focal planet is to offer insight into what needs to be done, positive expression, with this dynamic energy pattern; in addition, the sign opposing the focal planet reveals the area that needs focus and attention. So, what happened in early August to the stock market? The planet Mars entered into the sign of Cancer and connected (orb) to the other three planets making the T Square, into what is called a Grand Cardinal Cross. When four planets are in a stressful aspect to one another, they offer the opportunity and potential to make major changes, especially when the planets are in cardinal signs. Cardinal signs say, “Take Action!” If you remember, at this time, investors took out their money from the stock market. The planet Uranus represents: sudden and unexpected, reversals, surprises, excitement, friends, organizations and natural disasters. The planet Saturn represents: losses, separations, disappointments, responsibilities, delays, burdens, anxiety, worry and consolidation. The planet Pluto represents: regeneration, drastic changes, severe conditions, destruction, death, transformation, masses of people, power struggles, control issues, intense energies and joint finances (taxes, social security, the stock market, investments and all types of insurances). The planet Mars is a planet that brings in a tremendous amount of “raw” energy, adding “fuel to the fire” sort of speak. When Mars entered into Cancer, it activated all the things associated with that sign; such as, your roots and emotional foundation, family, home and tradition, real estate, agriculture, the necessities of life, woman, motherhood and financial security. When the Grand Cardinal Cross was in effect, both transiting Sun and Venus were in the sign of Leo, a sign associated with speculation, thus emphasizing money and investments. The sign Taurus is associated with personal values, while its opposite sign Scorpio, ruled by Pluto, is associated with spiritual values. Pluto in dynamic aspect to Uranus, Mars and Saturn, is forcing the masses (through losses) to get in touch with their higher self and higher values.

In late August, the east coast of the United States experienced hurricane Irene; a hurricane is made-up of a tremendous amount of energy, wind and water. At this time (T Square, Grand Cardinal Cross) the planet Neptune was in the last degree, 29 of Aquarius. Aquarius is an air sign (wind) and Neptune has rulership over water. Remember that the last degree of any sign represents endings, sadness and sorrow. So, isn’t it true, when everything is lost; people, possessions and resources, that all we have left is our spiritual values? Another function of the planet Pluto is to teach us to “let go” of relationships, possessions, ideas, habits and behavior patterns that are no longer applicable or valid in our lives. Because of the great loss of homes and property, both the applicable or valid in our lives. Because of the great loss of homes and property, both the government and its people are being forced (Pluto) to reevaluate and to make life changing decisions.

The universe works perfectly; the events in our lives are timed perfectly for our personal and spiritual growth.

In recent times, the world has experienced mass destruction from the four elements. So, what are the elements trying to teach us? Energies and elements that are out of control or in excess create chaos. We need the Sun to heat and light our planet and to provide the energy to make photosynthesis, we need the earth to grow our crops, we need air for oxygen and last, we need water to cleanse and to hydrate all living things. These four elements; fire, earth, air and water are necessary for human existence. The four elements are teaching us the life lesson of MODERATION. An individual with an excess of the fire element in his natal chart is quick to react, but is short on forethought and sensitivity. An individual with an excess of the earth element can be so mired in the practical concerns of daily living that he limits himself to new ideas and concepts. The individual with an excess of air can be too objective and too logical that he becomes emotionally removed and detached. The individual with an excess of water can be too sensitive and too subjective that he ignores reality and fails to see the “bigger picture”.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and with this position comes the desire to be first; first in line, first to run into a burning building and first to do anything. Being a cardinal sign, the Aries takes action, usually physically action; pushing, punching or shoving a person out of harms way. Aries always represents new beginnings and “all that is new”. Think of a seed under the ground, just starting to germinate and open. The Aries is here to learn how to use his energies constructively. Have you ever heard of the “terrible twos”? This is where the two year old child is getting in touch with his Mars energies. Mars takes two years to transit the entire zodiac and return to its natal position. Ask any parent about his Aries child or Aries type child (moon or ascendant in Aries, a stellium in Aries, Mars aspected, planets in the first house, especially the planet Mars) how rough the Aries child is on his clothes and toys; also how frequently his child manages to break so many things and have so many accidents. Now, the other eleven signs of the zodiac view the Aries as: arrogant, aggressive, angry, argumentative, brash, combative, hot tempered, domineering, impetuous, foolish, impatient and inconsiderate. The other signs forget that Aries is learning about the individual self, and yes, the Aries can be self centered and selfish, but this is the experience of the Aries. Ask any teacher when the classroom is quiet, there will always be someone who will make a sound or drop a book in order to break the silence and to fire-up the energies; for the Aries feels like he is dying inside if he isn’t in a high energy environment. The Aries is all about energy and taking action, and another Aries life lesson is to learn the consequences of his actions. The positive expression of the Aries is: assertive, courageous, direct, fast, independent, individualistic, inspirational, leadership ability, hard working, risk taker, self motivated, up beat and positive. In the 40’s there was a famous Aries actress, Joan Crawford who did a movie entitled A Woman’s Face. Everyone was taken back that Miss Crawford would take a role in which she played a woman with a disfigured face, since she always wanted to look good in her movies. Whether Joan Crawford knew it or not, this role came naturally to her, you see, the Aries usually has a mark or scar on his face. So why do we need the Aries in our lives? Aries moves our society forward; he is the pioneer, the one who breaks new ground. The Aries has that thrust of energy, enthusiasm and excitement necessary to get a project off the ground.

The zodiac is made up of twelve different signs; each sign is divided into three categories: gender (male, female), mode of operation (cardinal, fixed, mutable), element (fire, earth, air, water). Notice that each sign has a different gender, mode of operation and element than the preceding sign and the following sign for example, the first sign of the zodiac is Aries, (male, cardinal, fire), the second sign is Taurus (female, fixed, earth), the third sign is Gemini (male, mutable, air), the fourth sign is Cancer (female, cardinal, water). Male signs are extroverted and assertive, while the female signs are introverted and passive. Cardinal signs take action, fixed signs stay the course and mutable signs are always waiting for more information. The fire signs are full of life, energy and enthusiasm. The earth signs are quiet, hard working and reserved. The air signs are mentally alert, open minded and extroverted. The water signs are private and live in a sea of emotions and feelings. Two planets that are one sign apart or 30 degrees apart (adjacent signs) with an orb of 2 degrees have an aspect called a semi-sextile.The semi-sextile requires the individual to make internal adjustments, failing to do so, may result in a health issue. Adjacent signs irritate one another (you can see why); however, if the two signs involved would take the time to appreciate each other's attributes and “bend a little” this aspect would work.

Example: Venus is at 4 degrees of Aries and Jupiter is at 2 degrees of Taurus.

Generations

We are all spiritual beings living on this physical plane for the sole purpose of expanding and evolving our consciousness. The lessons of life are both generational and personal. The three slowest moving planets; Uranus, Neptune and Pluto (What are the glyphs?) are called generational planets, since groups of souls entered the physical plane (birth) when one of these planets was in a particular sign , thus giving a group consciousness and similar life experiences. Here is a list showing the years in which the planet Pluto was transiting each sign.

Cancer - 1914-1939

Leo - 1939-1957

Virgo -1957-1972

Libra -1972-1984

Scorpio -1984-1995

Sagittarius -1995-2008

Capricorn -2008-2024

So what occurred during the time Pluto was transiting the sign of Cancer, the depression for one thing. Notice that Pluto is currently opposing the generation with Pluto in Cancer. This older generation is now facing similar Cancer type issues. The Leo generation is focused on: love, romance, ego, creative self expression, children, pets, entertainment, recreation and career, being in the spotlight, speculation and maintaining a youthful appearance. Since you know what each sign rules, think about each generation and what issues they choose to address as a group. Also, take note of how old people are at this time; for instance, the Libra generation is in their30’s+ and now are being squared by Pluto in Capricorn raising issues with relationships, power struggles, joint finances and sex. In the movie Parish, the actress Claudette Colbert said,’ I don’t think any generation ever understands another”.

Why is that? Each generation has their slower moving planets in the adjacent sign (semi-sextile) from the previous generation. Remember that adjacent signs call for adjustment, and yes, each generation has to learn to adjust to the next generation.

Parenthood

Astrology is primarily concerned with energies, energy patterns and cycles; a natal horoscope represents the energies that were present at the time of an individual’s birth. The ten heavenly bodies or planets represent different types of energies; for instance, the planet Mars, in a natal chart represents (besides many other things) your young father, while the planet Venus represents (besides many other things) your young mother. How Mars and Venus get along astrologically (aspects-harmonious or inharmonious), as well as, how they are aspected in your natal chart by other planets will set the stage for how you relate to others, especially the opposite sex. Parents that do not have a loving and cohesive relationship, even during the pregnancy, will pass on to their offspring similar relationship issues and energy patterns.

Getting In Touch With The Elements

When evaluating a natal horoscope the astrologer pays close attention to the four elements: fire, earth, air and water. The elements reveal the psychological mind-set of the individual. A most informative book on this subject is Astrology, Psychology and The Four Elements by Stephen Arroyo M.A.. In recent times, the American people have been experiencing, first hand, the worst side or destructive side of these four elements; fire-heat waves, droughts, brush and forest fires, earth-earthquakes, avalanches, mud slides, air-wind storms, tornadoes, water-floods, tsunamis. For a moment, think about the element of your Sun Sign. At the time of birth, there are ten planets transiting the heavens in different elements and zodiac signs. In order to obtain a clearer picture of an individual, the astrologer tallies up the number of different elements in a natal chart; for instance, an individual may have four planets in the air element and the remaining six planets being in the fire element. Of course, there are many factors to consider, but at first blush, one can say that this person is full of energy and good ideas, but is short on sensitivity (water) and common sense (earth). Individuals are complex, and so too, is astrology.

Recently, we heard about a Congressman from New York who got himself into trouble by sending inappropriate mail and photos to young woman through the Internet. Being in the public’s eye, the Congressman’s behavior has highlighted the issue of communicating on the Internet. Today, we are becoming more aware of the negative side of the Internet; our children have been preyed upon and taken advantage of, adults have been deceived, and have become obsessed with this new technology. Also many marriages have been destroyed, because of relationships found on line. So what’s going on? Astrology is rich in symbolism and at times, can be taken literally; the three slower moving planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are currently in a particular position in the heavens. Uranus, being in the sign of Aries, is taking the lead, and has been for several years, while Pluto is situated in the last position. Uranus is associated with friends, groups and advanced technology (besides many other things), while Pluto represents (besides many other things) the masses and is associated with: betrayal, sex, compulsion and obsession. In one of your empty horoscope wheels, draw in the glyph for Uranus in the first house of Aries, Neptune in the eleventh house of Aquarius and Pluto in the tenth house of Capricorn. Notice that Neptune is positioned in between Uranus and Pluto, thus suggesting that Neptune, being in an adjacent sign, is creating some irritation or interference between the masses and advanced technology. The planet Neptune is associated with: illusion, fantasy, confusion, evasiveness and deception, (besides many other things). One can draw the conclusion, just from the physical placement of these three planets, that the masses are not in control (Pluto) of technology, but rather technology is dictating and is in control of the masses. The lesson to be learned comes from the sign of Virgo; being cautious and having a healthy skepticism. This similar energy pattern reminds me of the young teenager who is getting in touch with his new found sexuality; it’s new, it’s exciting, but how do I handle it? Uranus is at 4 degrees of Aries, while Pluto is at 6 degrees of Capricorn, what is this aspect?

The horoscope wheel provides us with unlimited information about the human experience; recently, Dr. Fred Vagnini, a well know heart surgeon from New York, has written a book about the connection between diabetes and heart disease/circulatory problems. Let’s look at the wheel; notice that the sign Taurus naturally squares the signs Aquarius and the sign of Leo. The sign Taurus, known to have a “sweet tooth”, frequently is dealing with sugar problems. The sign Aquarius has rulership over circulation, while the sign Leo rules the heart. Remember that a square represents a flow of energy that is hampered or blocked. Notice the elements. Do they get along?

A planet in a zodiac sign is neither good nor bad; however some combinations should raise an eyebrow. Jupiter is a planet of excess and the sign Taurus is a sign of indulgence. Watch your spending and your sweets!

If You Studied Astrology, You Would Know That-

Most individuals have two retrograde planets in their natal horoscope (meaning that the issues associated with these planets and signs are in the process of review), those who have more than two retrograde planets are perceived by others to be holding something back, not revealing all. You can see why this is so, because a retrograde planet represents energy that is held back or is on hold.

Gaining And Losing Weight

Two planets that are involved in gaining or losing anything, including weight are Jupiter which always expands, enlarges and makes bigger, and Saturn which consolidates, reduces and makes smaller. It is important to know what these two transiting planets are doing in the heavens with regards to your natal chart. The ascendant/first house represents your physical body along with other planets, especially the Sun. If Saturn is transiting your ascendant/first house and is making ease aspects, you will tend to lose weight, and when Jupiter is transiting your ascendant/first house, you are likely to gain weight. Sextile Trine

The Sextile is an aspect of opportunity; the distance between two points is 60 degrees with an orb of 6 degrees. The key here is to take advantage of the opportunity or it will just fade away. The Trine is another harmonious aspect; its distance is120 degrees with an orb of 8 degrees. The Trine represents what we have already learned in a past life (talents, abilities) and there is an ease in the flow of energy between these two points. The issue with the Trine is that things come so easily that people can become lazy. Astrologers hold a unique position amongst other counseling professionals (physicians, mental health practitioners, religious advisers etc.); they do not need nor rely on tests or input from the client. The astrologer uses a horoscope as his informational tool; a map of the heavens at a specific moment in time, a nativity. The horoscope reveals an individual’s personality, potential, abilities, life experiences and lessons. Do you remember the movie “The Karate Kid” from 1984? This was a story of a teenage boy wanting to learn how to defend himself against some bullies, and as in life, the teacher (a Japanese handyman) appears when the pupil is ready. The handy man agreed to teach the boy the art of Karate by first teaching the teen the basics; to become aware and accustomed to specific hand movements. In this class I am also teaching the basics, the basics of astrology; elements, signs, planets, houses and aspects, with the intent that you will become more aware of your special connection with the universe.

If you studied astrology, you would know that-

There are two types of Capricorns; one who is highly ambitious, goal orientated, works in the public arena and frequently rises to the top of his profession, the second type is the hard working, law-abiding, solid citizen who is community conscious and family orientated.

Each individual is made-up of both masculine and feminine energies; how one approaches life depends upon the emphasis of the masculine or feminine signs and planets in his natal horoscope. Draw a circle, with a horizontal line divide the circle into two equal hemispheres. [Remember that astrology is rich in symbolism]. This horizontal line represents the horizon. The end point of this line on the left side represents 6:00 AM, sunrise, also the ascendant. The opposite point represents 6:00 PM, sunset and the descendant. Sunrise represents the masculine energies relating to the Sun, while the sunset represents the feminine energies relating to the Moon. Whether you are aware of it or not, when you rise in the morning, you are connecting to your male side; self expressive and self-initiating, and at sunset you are reconnecting with your female side; being sociable, receptive, and nurturing. Reflect upon the activities in your life that take place after sunrise and sunset.

THE POSITIVE EXPRESSION OF YOUR ENERGIES

(You have a choice; whether to use your energies constructively or destructively).

Let’s take the conjunction of Mars conjunct Saturn ;

this aspect can be the most frustrating aspect or the most productive. Mars is all about energy and personal drive; it wants to go; it wants to move forward, while Saturn says WAIT! Think of Mars as a car speeding ninety miles an hour and Saturn as a brick wall, what do you think happens, anger, frustration resulting in a loss, an accident or a violent act? Both Mars and Saturn are associated with work; this same aspect can mean a person working very hard to start a business (conjunction represents a new beginning; Saturn is business, a long term goal). Say this conjunction took place in the sign of Cancer; this could represent digestive problems, great emotional frustration, issues with the mother, woman or family (all things associated with the sign of Cancer). It also could mean a person putting out a lot of energy remodeling his home, but is frustrated that he has to wait (Saturn) for the necessary permits. Say that this conjunction took place in the sign of Leo.

This could mean a boy (Mars usually represents a young male or an Aries type female) wanting to go out and play; however his father (Saturn-authority figure) says, “You can go out and play, only after you practice your piano”. Saturn says “set goals, be organized, be efficient, use common sense, be responsible, realistic, disciplined, be committed and do the job right”. Saturn is the last visible planet in the heavens; it represents the requirements of the physical world. Saturn says that, “You cannot move forward or go to the next level unless you fulfill the necessary requirements”. Remember that planets, in a conjunction, should work together; however some planets get along better than others.

THE SQUARE

Like the conjunction, the square is another dynamic aspect which simply means it forces us to take action. The square represents a 1-4 aspect meaning that planets that are four signs apart and or 90 degrees apart with an orb of 8 degrees are in square aspect. Squares motivate us; they represent challenges, obstacles, problems, hard work and our life lessons. Throughout your life, you will be working on your dynamic aspects in your natal chart. The key here is to master your squares by using the positive expression of the signs and planets involved. Those who study astrology have an edge in this regards; perhaps a change in attitude is needed or a change in your mode of operation. Are you too fixed and stubborn, too unfocussed and scattered or just too busy to take an interest in others or to appreciate your accomplishments? Notice that most dwellings have four corners using the 90 degree angle. Ninety degrees represents structure and support; however, one cannot see around a corner. This is very symbolic, since we spend our lives working on our squares, trying to figure out how to make them work positively. Notice that cardinal signs square one another, fix signs square one another and the mutual signs square one another; also take note of the elements.

PROGRESSIONS

Notice that this horoscope wheel has three circles. The smallest wheel is called the natal chart; this is where the astrologer places the glyphs of the planets and their degrees. The second wheel is called the progressed chart and the third wheel is called the transiting chart. The planets in the progressed chart represent the inner development of a person and the unfoldment of the potential in an individual’s natal chart. You are not the same person as you were at 3, 13 or 30; you have gone through many experiences, have become more conscious and have progressed on your spiritual journey. The transiting chart represents what is going on now with the planets in the heavens; it represents the current consciousness. The natal chart is really a transiting chart; however, the natal chart represents a moment in time, a birth, a specific time, date and place. The planets in all three wheels relate to one another.

Neptune

On April 4th Neptune will enter into its own sign of Pisces; however it will only stay at 1 degree before it retrogrades back into 28 degrees of Aquarius in November. When a planet is in its own sign, it has more energy, more emphasis or influence. Take note of the element. When Neptune is aspected by any other planet, you will have the opportunity to find out something you did not know before, since Neptune represents “that which is hidden”. Neptune has been in the sign of Aquarius for about 14 years; the opposite sign is Leo (opposition represents a point of awareness), a sign associated with children. Our society has become aware (the opposition) of the overuse of prescription drugs, the use of illegal drugs and alcohol by its children. Neptune is associated with: water, faith, illusion, fantasy, confusion, lack of clarity, addictions, bizarre events and behaviors, deception, psychic abilities, sacrifice, that which eludes you, idealism, imagination, artistic talents, great sensitivity, fear, phobias, aberrations and ones spiritual connection.

THE UNIVERSE WORKS PERFECTLY

When one studies astrology he learns about timing of events; why events occur at a particular time. So, what is going on in the Middle East? Pluto, the slowest moving planet is currently transiting the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is associated with authority, the corporate world and government, while Pluto represents power, control, destruction for the purpose of regeneration, masses, major change and transformation, nuclear power, taxation, death and rebirth (never more to be the same again).
In late summer, the planet Saturn was in a square aspect to Pluto .

Saturn was in and is still in the sign of Libra, a sign associated with relationships, diplomacy, negotiations, cooperation, compromise and legal matters. Saturn represents: losses, separations, reduction and disappointments, responsibility, obligations, limitations, restrictions, fear, consolidation, hard work and even oppression.

In February the planet Jupiter entered into the sign of Aries, a sign involved with the individual self (I want what I want and I want it now!). The function of Jupiter is to increase, enlarge and to make bigger, no matter what the existing situation. Aries is fiery, energetic and enthusiastic, as well as, highly impulsive and impatient. Aries represents, like the conjunction, “new beginnings”; a sign associated with the pioneer; he who breaks new ground. Jupiter is associated with expansion, philosophy, future goals and freedom. Jupiter in Aries is in square aspect to Pluto. On March 11th, the planet Uranus entered the sign of Aries adding more energy and stress to the situation.

Uranus calls for abrupt change; often associated with revolutions, natural disasters and sudden and unexpected events. Uranus is called the “The Great Awakener”, it wakes people up to what they truly value in life (troubles in Japan). The people in the Middle East want their political freedom and in the United States, people are protesting about government excessive spending, budget cuts, public employee’s pensions and taxes.

Astrology is an ancient mathematical science, craft and art that is rich in symbolism. Each zodiac sign has its own astrological symbol; for example, the sign Capricorn has the sure-footed mountain goat. Slowly and cautiously the mountain goat jumps from rock to rock ascending the mountain top. Don’t be overwhelmed that you are entering the class late; just remember how the mountain goat reaches its goal.

WHY IS THE WORLD SO MESSED UP?

When an individual is in the process of cleaning-out his closet, he first, invariably makes a mess; things are in disarray and in disorder. The human race is also in a PROCESS, the process of spiritual growth and development. The soul enters into the physical form in order to purify and perfect the energies in its natal horoscope. Throughout the centuries, man has struggled with the negative expressions of his natal planets; using poor judgment, making bad choices, abusing power and position, avoiding responsibility, acting impulsively and not being aware of the consequences of his actions. Planetary energies, in themselves, are not negative; however, the sign that the planet is in contains both a higher and lower expression.

REVIEW OF ELEMENTS

On each cusp, draw the glyph or symbol for the natural ruling sign; also write in the elements associated with each sign. Do this either, in your mind or make yourself a grid; starting with Aries (consider the element and mode of operation), how does Aries get along with each of the other eleven signs? Do this exercise with each of the remaining signs, next Taurus etc.

If you studied astrology, you would know that-

The signs Sagittarius and Aquarius seek the truth and are the most truthful.

DEGREES

The horoscope wheel contains 360 degrees and each zodiac sign contains 30 degrees. Currently, the ten heavenly bodies (What are they?) are in a specific sign, degree, minute and second. The proper way of writing the position of a planet is the degree first, then the glyph of the sign, the minutes, a colon and then the seconds. Here is an example; on November 25, 2010, the transiting Sun was at 3 6:16. Planetary positions can be found in a book called an ephemeris; it lists all the planetary positions for each day of the year (covers several years). A good substitute for an ephemeris is an astrological calendar; my favorite is the CELESTIAL INFLUENCE calendar; it gives planetary positions, the moon phases, eclipses, retrogrades and so much more.

Review of Assignment 34

A conjunction is where two or more planets are in the same sign and at the same degree (this is with exceptions). When two planets are conjuncting, there is a TREMENDOUS amount of energy focused on that specific degree. These planets must be viewed as one energy pattern, just like a pair of pants; one leg is attached to the other, and goes along with the other. The conjunction, like all aspects, has multiple meanings and potential.

The orb of influence is the distance, in degrees, between a planet or a sensitive point (ascendant, nadir or IC, descendant, midheaven or MC) and an approaching planet. Think of a candle with a flame as a planet and your hand as an approaching planet; if you were to take your hand and slowly approach the candle’s flame, you would feel the heat (orb of influence) gradually increasing. When your hand was directly over the flame (the exact conjunction) the heat would be most intense, and as your hand was leaving the flame, the heat would decrease. Each aspect has its own orb of influence; however, astrologers differ in their opinions. The standard orb for the conjunction is 8 degrees. Say there is a planet at 10 30, you would feel the influence of the approaching planet at about 2. I have found that those individuals who are in tune with their energies will feel the influence of the conjunction much sooner than 8 degrees. Review of Assignment 35

Each month there is a New Moon at a specific sign and degree. This New Moon only occurs every nineteen years, thus indicating some significance. A New Moon represents the conjunction between the transiting Sun and the transiting Moon. Like all conjunctions, the New Moon represents a new beginning, a new phase and a new cycle for that month; a time to start a new venture, project or to set new goals for the next four weeks. Inscribe in a circle the cardinal cross; these are the two lines that divide the circle into four quarters or quadrants, 90 degrees each. The end points of the cardinal cross are called sensitive points; the Ascendant-first house, Nadir or IC-fourth house, the Descendant-seventh house, Midheaven or MC-tenth house. Since the first house or the Ascendant always represents new beginnings, visualize, the New Moon starting from that point. When the Moon has traveled ninety degrees from its New Moon position, it is said to be in its first quarter, a time of testing for what you started at the New phase. When the Moon has traveled one hundred and eighty degrees (about two weeks) and opposes its original position, it is now called a Full Moon, a point of awareness, decision making or a conflict has arisen from what was started at the New phase. When the Moon has traveled an additional 90 degrees, it is said to be in its last or fourth quarter phase, a time of harvest and fruition, the results of what was started at the New phase. Notice that the last phase or fourth quarter is located at the very top of the wheel MC, a point of achievement and accomplishment.

Name the planets.

THE SUN

Observe the glyph for the Sun, a circle with a dot in the center. This symbol has many interpretations; however, the one I like best is the soul’s target for this incarnation; to use the higher expression of its zodiac Sun Sign. The Sun has the most predictable transiting motion, about one degree a day. The Sun in a horoscope represents the essence and core of the individual; his identity, physical vitality, potential, life purpose and most importantly, his will. An individual may have many talents, abilities and opportunities; but if the individual does not have the will to utilize these, nothing gets accomplished. What four sun signs have the strongest willpower? It takes the Sun about a year to transit the entire zodiac. A solar return is where the Sun has transited the entire zodiac and has returned to its original natal position.

In the beginning of 2011, both Jupiter and Uranus will be entering into the sign of Aries, an entirely different energy from the previous sign of Pisces. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, ruled by the planet Mars and is a cardinal fire sign; spirited, energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic, physical, forceful and bold. This is a good time to suggest that you make a list of “key words” for each of the zodiac signs. These words should give you a quick picture of what each sign is about. Here I must promote my ZODIAC GIFT GUIDE; besides offering gift suggestions, which in itself, reveals a lot about an individual’s personality, the GUIDE also provides twelve distinct personality portraits, thus giving insight and understanding of each zodiac sign; interests, tastes, consciousness and focus in life. Now, when we are talking about the sign Aries we must always consider the opposite sign which is Libra. When we are dealing with the polarity of Aries and Libra, we are working with relationships; Aries, the relationship with himself and Libra the relationship with others. As you recall, when a planet enters a sign, it highlights those people, places and issues associated with that particular sign; some issues that will be coming up are: self actualization, individual initiative, false starts, independence, impulse control, impatience, anger, accidents, injuries to the head and immaturity. A strong Aries type usually has reddish hair, handsome facial features, a mark or scar on the face and a muscular body. The Aries is fond of the color red, likes boots, leather and the “military look”, motorcycles, trucks, trains, guns, machinery and fast cars. The fiery Aries represents the pioneer, the one who breaks new ground. When I say an Aries “type”; I mean an Aries’s Sun, Moon or Ascendant; also Mars in the first house, a stellium in the first house or planets in the sign of Aries, last the planet Mars being heavily aspected by other planets.

YOUR HIGHER SELF

Your higher self chose your natal horoscope by selecting the time, date and place of birth. This special moment in time corresponded to specific planetary alignments in the heavens. Each planet has its own nature, energy and cycle. Emerson once wrote, “The world was created for the education of man”. We are all here, on this physical plane, to learn how to use our energies (represented by the natal planets) constructively. The natal chart represents a series of life events and experiences that your higher self wanted or needed to encounter for its spiritual growth. The people in your life act as mirrors, reflecting back your energies; emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. The people you encounter provide the necessary life experiences required by your natal horoscope, whether it be an angry salesman or a loving spouse. Think about this; your natal horoscope came into existence before you even met the people in your life.

ECLIPSES

In 2010 the Solar and Lunar eclipses occurred in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn. An eclipse spotlights a particular area of your life; it is saying, “This is the area you need to focus and work on”. The sign of Cancer is associated with “endings” and since Cancer also has a lot to do with our early childhood, these eclipses offer the individual the opportunity to end negative patterns of behavior learned in early childhood. Seize the moment and change the direction and dynamics of your life, as well as, your family’s. In your Solar chart, what houses do these eclipses fall?

Each of the twelve signs of the zodiac has a higher and lower expression of its energies. In the movie THE HEIRESS the father exhibited the lower expression of a Capricorn parent; one who was a strict disciplinarian, loved through a sense of duty/responsibility, and was: closed, cold and cynical, domineering fearful and materialistic, punitive and righteous. THE UNIVERSE WORKS PERFECTLY

In the summer of 2010, the issue of building a mosque near ground zero became a hot topic of debate. The mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomburg, was highly criticized for taking a stand in favor of the location. The mayor is an Aquarian; an air sign, emotionally detached, very idealist and treats everyone the same. The opposition to the location seems to come from an emotional perspective (water signs). The mayor is being true to his zodiac sun sign, just like Mr. Obama is now being criticized for taking too many vacations and having too many parties at the White House. Did you ever hear the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, since this is an astrology class, I want to alter this saying, “Don’t judge a person by his sun sign”. It is important to make the distinction between an individual and his sun sign; individuals are complex and are-made up of many different planetary energies, as reflected in his natal chart.

An individual can manifest similar characteristic and have similar issues of a different sign other than his zodiac sun sign; for example, a person who has his sun sign in Leo, could also have his natal moon in Pisces or the ruling planets of Pisces being emphasized, a stellium in the twelfth house or in the sign of Pisces. The sun sign in a chart represents the individual’s target or goal, what he is working towards in this lifetime.

The other natal planets represent either the individual’s support system or obstacles in this pursuit. Most assuredly, this person, although he is working towards the experience of a Leo (warm, outgoing and flamboyant), would also have issues of being shy, reclusive and introverted. Notice the two elements involved, fire and water. Do these get along? Now, say you had the same situation, but with a Taurus sun sign. The earth element blends well with the water element; this life’s journey would be much easier.

The events in our lives are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, astrology enables the individual to stand back, be objective and see the bigger picture.

Assignment 33
The planet Pluto is currently transiting the sign of Capricorn, thus highlighting the sign and everything associated with the sign, as well as, its opposite sign of Cancer. In 2010 there will be eclipses (what does that mean?) occurring in both these signs. I think it would be beneficial to take a closer look at these two signs; rent the classic movie THE HEIRESS, observe the father’s demeanor towards his daughter; also rent the movie CHOCOLAT and take note of the villager’s attitudes, as well as, their mayor’s.

FOUNDATION
Notice that the fourth house of any horoscope is located at the very bottom of the chart. The fourth house represents one’s foundation, ancestors and roots. Many nutritionally orientated physicians believe that good digestion is the foundation for good health (Cancer is associated with food, the stomach, digestion and the fourth house).

The fourth house is your early childhood, the nurturing parent and your family unit. The function of the family is to tend to the physical needs of the infant/child and to provide emotional security. When a tree has a good root system, it flourishes and bears fruit. What do you suppose happens to a child who has a shaky foundation?

Have you ever watched the TV show, Judge Judy? Frequently on her show, we see young people having babies and who are not married, not committed to one another or living with one another. When an infant enters into a family unit that does not provide a solid foundation; physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, he will invariably have many more issues to work on in his lifetime.

Review of Assignment 32
The assignment was to make a comprehensive list of what each house covers. Let me give you an example of one house. The first house of a horoscope is also called the rising sign or ascendant. Here I must stop and point out that a horoscope is based upon an individual’s exact time, date and place of birth. In astrology, four minutes of time is equal to one degree. So, if you have an incorrect birth time, your natal horoscope will also be incorrect.

Check-out your birth time on your original birth certificate. The first house has to do with your physical body, what you were given, your physical attributes, as well as, any abnormalities. There are two other health houses; the sixth house, where you learn to maintain your health (life style, good nutrition, physical activity) and the eighth house which has to do with chronic illnesses.

The first house is how you present yourself, your image or your personality; it is your identity and it is also your personal environment in which you live/work in. If you have an Aries ascendant, you will probably live/work in an environment which is highly charged and energetic, fast paced, physical and confrontational. The first house represents you, while the opposite sign or seventh house represents others or a reflection of you (your good qualities, as well as, the not so good).

The first house is how you portray yourself, while the sign on the MC or Midheaven (10th house), is how people perceive you. Did you ever watch the TV show, Project Runway with Heidi Klum? On the show, she seems very serious and business-like, but on another TV show, where she was a guest, she was light-hearted, funny and joking around. When you have a planet in your natal first house; it is saying that there is work to be done on developing your individual self.

When planets are transiting through the first house, there will be changes in your physical appearance, perhaps you will gain or lose weight, change your hair style or your style of clothes.

THE UNIVERSE WORKS PERFECTLY

In the early spring of 2010, the Obama administration decided to permit off shore drilling along the east coast. It was only a month or so (April 20th) that we heard about the oil spillage in the Gulf of Mexico. Let’s look at the heavens. The planet Uranus was in the sign of Pisces; it is a planet which is associated with advanced technology, computers, explosions and catastrophes. Uranus brings sudden and unexpected changes (one moment the Gulf waters are clear and clean and the next moment, the Gulf is polluted by millions of gallons of oil). The planet Jupiter was also in the sign of Pisces and wherever Jupiter is, it expands and enlarges (huge, enormous or massive).

Opposing these two planets was Saturn in the sign of Virgo; the planet that teaches us our lessons of life. Saturn is the planet that holds us accountable and responsible for our actions or inactions. The sign Pisces is associated with: the hidden, the unknowable, deception, faith, water, the ocean and sea creatures, while the sign Virgo is associated with employment, purity, cleanliness, caution, preparedness, schedules, routines, systems and daily maintenance.

Remember that three things occur with an opposition; a decision has to be made (the Obama administration put a stop on off shore drilling for a time and place new safety regulations on the oil companies), a conflict arises (the American people are angry at the oil company and the administration) and last, an opposition offers an opportunity for awareness (we are all becoming aware of the dangers involved with off shore drilling without the proper safety measures and maintenance procedures; also, people are rethinking the role of fossil fuel in the future).

PISCES

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, thus indicating completions and endings. Its ruling planets are Neptune and Jupiter. Do you remember how you felt on the last day of school? You probably had mixed feelings; on the one hand, you felt happy that the school year was ending, but on the other hand, you felt sad because you weren’t going to see your friends anymore. Well, this describes how the Piscean feels. The astrological symbol for the sign Pisces is a pair of fish going in opposite directions; symbolizing adaptability, fluidity, mixed feelings and confusion. The Pisces is classified as a water, feminine, dualistic and mutable sign (What does that mean?). In a previous class I suggested that you take a trip to the pet store and watch the fish swim.

Did you notice how, in a moment, the fish can change direction? Well, the Piscean’s feelings, mental state and even his physical appearance can also change in a moment. Mutable signs are changeable, flexible, inconsistent, restless and scattered. This mutability makes it easy for the Piscean to loose himself in his thoughts, daydreams and activities. What are the other mutable signs? Being a water sign, the Pisces experiences life on an emotional level; however, like the mute fish, the Pisces has great difficulty expressing his deepest feelings and emotional pain; he suffers in silence. The empathetic Pisces is an idealist who wants to see the good in everyone and everything. The soft, sensitive Pisces also has great difficulty facing the harsh realities of life; frequently, he looks to escape through alcohol or drugs. Being a feminine sign, the Pisces approaches life indirectly and takes subtle action. I don’t know if this is true, but it is said, that Jesus had six planets in the sign of Pisces.

I must say, that Jesus did exhibit the higher expression and qualities of the Piscean: gentle, kind and compassionate, forgiving, accepting and self sacrificing. The sign Pisces is associated with: the creative arts, the ocean, sea creatures, fantasy, faith, dreams, intuition, psychic abilities, sensitivities or allergies, spirituality, imprisonment, self imprisonment, hospitals, mental institutions, the spirit world, from the past, great imagination, odors, isolation, medical fields, narcotics, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, phobias and addictions. This sign is also associated with the bazaar, the unforeseen, behind the scenes, secrets, lack of clarity, that which is hidden, the peculiar, deception, self deception, illusion and fear. Remember that when you are having problems with a particular sign; use the higher expression of that sign, in the case of Pisces, be helpful to others, use your creative abilities and get in touch with your spiritual self. Also, look to the opposite sign for insight. In order to be a great dancer, artist, actor etc.; one needs the structure, discipline, hard work and organizational skills of the opposite sign Virgo. With regards to addictions, once again, look to the sign Virgo. Virgo is focused on the maintenance of health; good diet, exercise, a healthy life style and an internal body cleansing from toxins and allergies, especially cerebral allergies. Being a dualist sign, the Pisces is either this way or the other way (he flips flops); sloppy or neat, a drinker or a health fanatic, careless or fastidious, be helpful or parasitic.

Now, do you remember what a stellium is? A stellium is three or more planets in one particular sign or house, thus highlighting the areas associated with that sign or house. Since 2004 we have been experiencing the energies of the planet Uranus in the sign of Pisces. Uranus brings about: surprises, shocks, unexpected events, natural disasters and electrical activity. The function of Uranus is to bring about awareness and to change existing situations through reversals (One minute you have a house and the next minute, its hit by lighting). Pisces is the unforeseen; Uranus being in Pisces brings about unforeseen natural disasters. In January Jupiter entered into the sign of Pisces and is associated with travel, education, philosophy, ethics, optimism, good luck and foreign affairs. The function of Jupiter is to expand and increase. At the end of February, the transiting Sun entered the sign Pisces. In early March both Mercury (communications, travel, education, siblings, worry, decisions, employment) and Venus (possessions, finances, values, social activity, a young woman, relationships and artistic design) entered the sign Pisces. Are you counting the planets? During this period, we have experienced earth quakes, excessive precipitation, a shocking incident involving a whale and its trainer (Jupiter symbolized a large sea creature), Congress reexamined its position with regards to woman serving on submarines (that which is hidden under the ocean) and Dr. Phil presented several shows dealing with drugs addictions and teen suicide.

Notice that all these planets, in the sign of Pisces, are opposing the sign Virgo. Do you recall what an opposition represents? Go back and review past lessons.

FASHION

The other day I was listening to the radio and there was a discussion about fashion week held in NYC. The two individuals were noticing that there seems to be a relationship between finances and fashion. Well, if you have been a good student, you should know the answer. The sign Taurus is associated with finances and the sign Libra is associated with fashion. Both signs are ruled by Venus. How these areas will be affected will depend upon how well Venus is harmonizing or not with the other transiting planets.

Review of Assignment 31
The Solar and Lunar eclipses of 2010 will take place in the polarity of Cancer and Capricorn. Where these signs are in your Solar chart will highlight those areas associated with those houses. Remember an eclipse will show you where the activity for the year will take place and in addition, they will also show you, your strengths and weaknesses in these areas.

Make a comprehensive list of what areas each house covers.

THE MOON
The moon is a luminary and it is the ruling planet of the sign Cancer. It is also the natural ruler of the fourth house (in your natal chart, you may have a different sign and ruling planet for your fourth house). The moon represents one’s emotional response to events and situations. It takes two and a half days to transit one zodiac sign. So every two and a half days, you have a different set of emotional responses. Did you ever see a movie where there was a distraught person who wanted to jump off a bridge or building? The police or professional tries to keep the jumper talking. Why? Well, the police are buying time in the hope that the person will change his mind. I think that the moon plays a role in this situation. During this period, the moon may go into the next sign which could change the outcome of this situation.
Have you ever purchased something and a few days later, you didn’t want it? The moon can also play a role in your decision.

Everyday we are living astrology, whether we are aware of it or not; for instance, Saturn, the planetary ruler of the sign Capricorn and the co ruler of the sign Aquarius, entered into the air sign of Libra in the fall of 2009, thus harmonizing with the other air signs (Aquarius, Gemini), as well as, giving opportunities to the three fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius). Since the fall, Saturn has remained in the first decant of the sign Libra. Remember that each sign has 30 degrees and that the sign is divided into three sections or decants; first decant is 1 to10 degrees, second decant, 10 to 20 degrees, third decant, 20 to 30 degrees. In the fall of 2009, Oprah made the announcement that her TV show would end in another year. Oprah’s sun is in an early degree of Aquarius which is in the first decant. When Oprah was asked about this announcement, she said, “I know that the time is right, I feel it in my bones”. Well, would you be surprised to know that Saturn, amongst many other things, is associated or has rulership of time, business and goals, also several parts of the body: the knees, hair, skin, joints and bones.
Dr. Phil, in the fall, promoted his eighth year in television by saying that his TV show was “getting back to basics”. If you have been a good student, you would have recognized the seven year cycle of Saturn; seven years from any starting point is a time of testing, of reexamination and reassessment of what began seven years ago, whether we are talking about a marriage, a business, a project or even a TV show.

When you divide the horoscope wheel into four equal quarters, the end points of the cross inscribed are the cusps of the first, fourth, seventh and tenth houses. The first house cusp is called the rising sign or the ascendant, the opposite house is the seventh house and the cusp is called the descendant, at the very bottom or the fourth house the cusp is called the nadir or IC, opposite the fourth house is the tenth house and the cusp is called the midheaven or MC. These four houses are extremely important, because they deal with the four major areas of your life; the first house represents the individual self, the fourth house the individual’s emotional foundation, the seventh house, relationships and the tenth house the career or your security out in the world.

Saturn in Libra

When a planet enters a particular sign it activates or highlights those issues associated with that sign. The sign Libra focuses on: relationships (personal, business), marriage, partnerships, social interaction, fashion, artistic design, interior decorating, the legal profession, public relations, negotiations, diplomacy, counseling, fairness and balance, also the kidneys, ovaries and hidden sexual organs. Saturn is associated with: hard work, accountability, accomplishment, honors, rewards, discipline, consolidation, high standards, integrity, responsibility, focalization, goal setting, organization, maturity, older individuals, authority figures, restrictions, limitations, delays, loss, disappointments, separation, a serious attitude, negativity, narrow mindedness, insecurity and fear. While Saturn is transiting the sign of Libra, people may feel restricted or held back by some close ties or relationships. People may also feel overwhelmed and burdened by their responsibilities, especially with older individuals or authority figures. This is not a time for resentment, but a time to get serious about your relationships and to step up and meet your obligations and commitments (President Obama, on January 7th took a very serious tone when speaking about “the war on terror”). The key here is to be aware that Saturn builds moral character, it will show you your weaknesses, but Saturn will also give you the ambition and discipline to finish a long range goal. How Saturn plays out specifically in your life depends upon where it was in your natal horoscope (house, sign, degree), also how it interacted with the other natal planets. On January 13th, Saturn will go retrograde at 4 degrees of Libra and will return to the last degrees of Virgo 29, 28, 27 degrees in April. Go back and review information on Saturn in Virgo and retrograde planets. In general, Saturn is saying WAIT, we are not ready to deal with the issues of the sign Libra. We first need to finish up the issues associated with the sign Virgo.

ECLIPSES

Each month, in the heavens, there is a new moon and a full moon. A new moon is where the Sun and Moon are at the same degree and in the same sign; each new moon sets the emotional tone for the month ahead. A full moon is where the moon has traveled through the zodiac from the new moon’s position until it is opposite the transiting sun. As you recall, an opposition means a point of awareness, a conflict or a decision is called for. Several times a year there are special new and full moons. These are called solar eclipses (new moon) and lunar eclipses (full moon). A new moon is in effect for a month, while a solar eclipse lasts about a year. The full moon is in effect for two weeks, while a lunar eclipse lasts for about six months. Mr. Obama had a solar eclipse on his birthday of August 2009 and won the presidential election in November. Eclipses bring CHANGE; an eclipse can bring one a promotion or a loss of a job. Eclipses, like Saturn, will show you your weaknesses; for instance, if you haven’t been paying attention to your diet, health issues may arise.

Assignment 31
Fill in the empty wheel. Put your sun sign at the ascendant and working downward list the signs in sequential order at each house cusp line. It won’t hurt to learn the astrological abbreviation for each sign. When you come to the house ruled by Cancer and Capricorn, draw one little circle and one little half moon in each of these houses to indicate where the eclipses of 2010 will take place.

Making Sense Out Of The Senseless

Astrology is primarily focused on the planets and their energies; as they relate to the events occurring on the earth. Most of us were shocked, in September of 2009, by several unusual events and surprising bad behaviors exhibited by those in the public’s eye; a well-known tennis player lost her cool on the court, a congressman, during a joint session of the Congress, interrupted the speech given by the president, at an awards ceremony, an artist impulsively ran up and grabbed the microphone from the individual who was giving her acceptance speech, a student was murdered at Yale University and the unusual amount of rainfall resulting in massive flooding in the U.S. and aboard. Remember, that an opposition calls for; an awareness, a confrontation or a decision. Currently, the planet Saturn is in the sign of Virgo opposing the planet Uranus in the sign of Pisces, both of these planets move slowly; therefore, this opposition is in effect for a period of time. Saturn brings about change through responsibility, separation or loss; it is also associated with: authority, rules, commitment, limitations, guilt, discipline, rejection, structure, restrictions, reputation, disappointment, disproval, criticism, rigidity, social status, fear, convention and conformity. Uranus brings about sudden and unexpected changes or reversals of a situation (winning the lottery is one); it is also associated with: natural disasters, surprises, electric energy, hopes and wishes, advanced technology, independence, urge to be free, rebelliousness, individuation, unconventionality, friends, groups, organizations and nonconformity. Some practical examples of this opposition would be; a person getting a blow-out driving to work, a college student refusing to come home for the holidays, a disruption in the work routine, because the computers shut down and most recently, Chicago was not selected to host the Olympics. Uranus is abrupt change and brings something different, while Saturn is comfortable where he is and prefers change to come from hard work and planning. Now, not everyone lost their temper or did something outrageous; it all depends on how this transiting opposition links into your natal chart. This is a good time to remember that we are made-up of energies and that we are all here, on this physical plane, to learn the constructive use of our energies.

TERMINOLOGY

A stellium is where there are three or more planets in a particular sign or house. This grouping is indicating an emphasis with a particular sign or house. An individual with a stellium in his natal horoscope will take on the characteristics of that sign, in addition to his other natal energies.

Assignment 29

Draw a circle; divide the wheel into four equal quarters. What you see is called a cardinal cross. The end points of the cardinal cross are the cusps (a cusp is the dividing line separating each of the twelve houses); the four cusps of the cardinal signs are called sensitive points.

The zodiac begins with the sign of Aries; it is a masculine, fire and cardinal sign (what does that mean?). When you think of the sign Aries; think of a seed, full of energy bursting open with new life. The Aries is highly energetic, enthusiastic and charismatic, is frequently associated with the pioneer; the individual who breaks new ground. Being the first sign of the zodiac, the Aries represents the initiator, “all that is new” and beginnings; however, the Aries frequently has difficulty following through and completing what he starts (unless he has some fixed and earth energies in his natal chart). Why? The Aries is: physical, fiery, impetuous, impulsive and highly reactionary; you hit me, I hit you back. The Aries has to learn the consequences of his actions. The opposite sign of Aries is Libra; this is the first opposition of the zodiac, giving us deep insight into our personal and business relationships. Aries is focused on self and self actualization; he takes bold and decisive action, shows anger openly, is competitive, likes confrontation and doesn’t care if he offends another. Libra is a masculine, air and cardinal sign (what does that mean?). The Libra, on the other hand, is concerned with others and how others see them, wants to please, is passive aggressive, enjoys social interaction, does not like disagreeable situations and avoids offending others, takes subtle action, weighs a decision carefully, appearing at times, to be indecisive. This opposition calls for “give and take”, mutual consideration and compromise; it also brings up the issue of, how much to give of yourself in a relationship without losing your self identity? The astrological symbol for the sign Libra is the Scales of Justice; the Aries-Libra polarity represents the delicate balancing act required in a relationship.

During this past summer President Obama went overseas and was criticized, at home, for being apologetic for the United States. Would you be surprised to know that President Obama has a stellium in his natal seventh house, which always has the connotation of the sign of Libra? Mr. Obama is doing what his chart indicates; the Libra is: charming, pleasant, stylish, sophisticated and highly agreeable. The Libra wants to seek harmony and balance with others; however, like all Libras, President Obama has to learn how to balance his interests (USA) with that of other world countries.

Whether you loved your mother or you hated her, the bottom line is that you chose her. Mother’s Day is a good time for both men and woman to reflect upon the special role that woman play in the world; that being, the vehicle in which a soul enters the physical plane and begins its spiritual journey.

CATEGORY

Another category in which the twelve zodiac signs are divided is NATURE, masculine or feminine. The fire and air signs, Aries, Leo, Sagittarius-Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are classified as masculine. The earth and water signs, Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn-Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are classified as feminine. Masculine signs are assertive, independent and extroverted, while the feminine signs are responsive, receptive and dependent.

In what jobs or careers would you find a woman whose natal horoscope has a preponderance of planets in masculine signs; conversely, in what jobs or careers would you find a man whose has a natal horoscope with a preponderance of planets in feminine signs?

ELEMENTS

Zodiac signs that share the same element work well together, “Birds of a feather flock together”. Fire signs-Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Earth signs-Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Air signs-Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Water signs-Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. In addition, fire signs get along with air signs; fire is inspired and excited by the mental abilities and great ideas of the air signs (air fans the fire), while the air are energized by the physicality and enthusiasm of the fire. Both the fire and air signs are somewhat irritated by the earth and water signs; the emotions of the water signs tend to dampen and disturb the fire and air signs. The earth signs, with their caution, practicality and common sense tend to drag down and stonewall both the fire and air signs. The earth and water signs view the fire and air signs as impetuous, impractical, insensitive and impatient. Earth and water signs get along famously; water is looking for stability, grounding and containment, while the earth signs are intrigued by the sensitivity of the water signs.

There are four signs in the zodiac that are referred to as “double” signs, Gemini, the signs of the twins, Libra, the signs of the scales (two sides of a scales), Sagittarius, the sign of the centaur (half man half animal) and Pisces, the sign of two fish going in opposite directions. Double signs tend to be inconsistent, changeable and give mixed messages.

TERMINALOGY

It’s time to become more sophisticated in our terminology; the twelve houses of the horoscope represent the different areas of life or realms of experiences. The first, fourth, seventh and tenth houses are called cardinal houses, but are also called angles or angle houses. Because a cardinal house represents action, any planet transiting one of these houses will activate all four areas of life. Each quadrant of the horoscope contains three houses; cardinal, fixed and mutable; however, these houses can also be called cardinal-first, fourth, seventh and tenth houses, succedent-second, fifth, eight and eleventh houses, cadent-third, sixth, ninth and twelfth houses.

The planet Saturn takes about 28 1/2 years to transit the entire zodiac, and remains in a sign for about 2 ½ years. When you were born, Saturn was in a particular house, sign and degree; in whatever house Saturn is transiting, it demands the individual to face reality, be responsible, be committed, work hard, be organized, set goals and basically, to grow up.

The Sun makes up 99% of our solar system and in astrology; the Sun is also the most significant energy in a horoscope. For this reason, an astrologer can erect what is called, a solar chart. This is where the astrologer takes the zodiac sun sign and places it at the ascendant (the point at which the soul enters the physical plane), and then continues the natural sequence of the zodiac downward or counter clockwise. A solar chart is valid, but it is not exact, since the chart was not based upon a specific time, date and place.

VENUS RETROGRADE

In March 2009, the planet Venus went retrograde at 15 degrees of Aries and will go back to 29 degrees of Pisces in April (last degree of any sign indicates a completion, endings or a finishing–up). A retrograde planet is one in which the energy is held back or delayed. Retrograde planets are saying go back and find out something you did not know before, revisit, rethink, revise and review those issues associated with the house, planet and sign of the retrograde. Venus is the planetary ruler of both the signs Taurus and Libra and is the natural ruler of the second and seventh houses. Some issues that are up for review are: money (income, budgets, spending practices), purchases, possessions, values, personal pleasures and comforts, beautification, artistic projects, social activities, small business and banking, as well as, relationships, marriage, partnerships, legal matters and counseling. During this Venus retrograde, the American people found out: that their Congress did not bother to read the stimulus bill, but just signed it, that the executives of AIG were paid big bonuses and last, the big news at the White House, a new addition, a puppy. Also, two events that were planned in the past and came to fruition were, a new archbishop was installed in New York and the new Yankee stadium was opened. During this Venus retrograde, the U.S. president introduced his budget for the coming year. I hope that the Congress will take advantage of the Venus retrograde and scrutinize the budget and do right by the American people. Nothing is set in stone when a planet is retrograde.

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WERE ASLEEP

Recently, I saw the classic movie, FLAMINGO ROAD, with Joan Crawford; basically the story was about corruption in government. There was an old cantankerous sheriff in the movie who told the story of how he once worked in a warehouse where there were rats, but he didn’t pay much attention to them, until one day, he fell asleep and awoke to find a rat chewing off his big toe.
An opposition means a point of awareness, a conflict or a need for a decision.
Pluto is the planet of power, control and taxation. It is now transiting the sign of Capricorn (government, big business) and opposing the sign of Cancer (the general public). The American people have been asleep for a long time. This Pluto opposition is making the American voter aware of the over regulation and over spending of their government. Since Pluto is in a cardinal sign, Americans have to take action and take back control of their government.

Anything that has a beginning has a natal horoscope: a human, an animal, a country, a state, a relationship, an event and even an idea. A natal horoscope reveals, what is promised (life experiences), for that particular moment in time, date and place. Astrology is focused on man’s relationship to the universe, as well as, his energy, energy patterns and cycles. A natal horoscope can attract certain energies, events, life experiences and individuals in order to fulfill the requirements of the natal horoscope. The universe works perfectly, there are no accidents, mistakes or coincidens; in November of 2008, two important events occurred, the U.S. people elected a new president and the planet Pluto, a planet that brings major change and transformation, healing, renewal and regeneration, moved into the sign of Capricorn. When a planet transits a zodiac sign, it brings energy and activity to those issues relegated to that particular sign, as well as, its opposite sign, in this case, Cancer. The sign of Capricorn has rulership over: government, authority figures, the professional, the corporate world, parents and older individuals; in addition, things that are old, history, tradition, patriotism, high standards, structure, respect, discipline, proper conduct and integrity. The opposite sign, Cancer has rulership over: family, home, the domestic scene, homeland, motherhood, infants, woman, agriculture, real-estate, nurturing, ones roots and emotional foundation. The planet Pluto came from the sign Sagittarius, a mutable sign interested in learning, collecting and understanding information. This powerful planet is now in a cardinal sign, thus indicating to take action, to utilize and apply the information that we have collected for the past twelve years (Pluto in Sagittarius): set goals, work hard, be honorable and responsible.

In a horoscope there are four quadrants; each quadrant having three houses. Currently, the last quadrant (houses 10, 11, 12) all contain planetary activity; the planet Uranus is in the sign of Pisces, the planets Neptune and Jupiter are in the sign of Aquarius, and last, Pluto is now in the sign of Capricorn. This fourth quadrant represents: duty, responsibility, social consciousness, community, organization, friendships, advanced technology, tolerance, service, compassion, the creative arts, self sacrifice and spirituality.

Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the zodiac and it is ruled by the planets Uranus and Saturn. This fixed-air sign is focused on seeking truth and sharing knowledge. Since the Aquarius is fixed, it tends to be loyal, persistent and determined. The air element indicates a focus on the mental plane; thoughts concepts and ideas. This unconventional, progressive sign rules: friends, groups, organizations and community. It is also associated with “that which is different” or unique, advanced technology, aviation, electricity, emotional detachment, surprises and humanitarianism. The opposite sign of Aquarius is Leo, it rules the fifth house and its ruing planet is the Sun, the most significant heavenly body in the universe. Leo is associated with ego, pride, self expression, creativity, career, children, celebrity, entertainment and speculation. This romantic sign represents the leader, the executive; one who has a flair for the dramatic and grandiose ideas. In the sign Leo we learn about acceptance and unconditional love. Being a fire sign, Leo symbolizes spirit, high energy, great enthusiasm and physical activity. Opposite signs have a strong attraction for one another; both Oprah and Abraham Lincoln have an Aquarius sun sign. This might be one of the reasons why Oprah was so enamored with Mr. Obama and Mr. Obama is so fascinated with President Lincoln.

ELEMENTS
The twelve zodiac signs are divided into four groups according to their life experience (Look at lesson 9). Here is an example of how there different elements work:

There are four individuals; each representing a different element. The fire sign jumps up and yells out enthusiastically, “I’m starving, let’s get something to eat!” The earth sign focusing on the details and practical concerns would say, “How much money are we going to spend, whose car will we use?” The air sign focusing on ideas and possibilities might say, “Well, we could cook something at home, have take-out or try that new restaurant.” And last, the water sign, working on the emotional plane, might say, “I don’t know what I feel like eating, perhaps some seafood”.

The sign Sagittarius is called a “double sign”, because its astrological symbol is a creature that is half man and half horse. Find out the other three zodiac signs that also have a double connotation.

Assignment 25
The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are called personal planets. The planets Jupiter and Saturn are called business or societal planets. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are referred to as generational or transcendental planets. Saturn is the last visible planet in the heaven; it teaches us the hard lessons of life. Either use an empty horoscope wheel or just make a column, numbered from one to twelve. Put your sun sign at number one or on the ascendant of the chart. List the rest of the zodiac in their proper order. When you get to the sign of Virgo, write in the word Saturn. Observe the house number and its correlating sign.

IN THE NEWS
In the fall of 2008, the U.S. Congress gave the banking establishments a substantial amount of money with the thought that the banks would be more inclined to start lending money, but this did not happen. Just knowing the consciousness of each zodiac sign is a good beginning to understand what is occurring in the world. Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac and has a lot to do with money. This sign has rulership of the banker. Taurus “takes”, its function is to acquire. This sign is cautious, wants a return for its investment; however one of the spiritual lesson for the sign Taurus is to be generous with his possessions. This is a good lesson for each of us. Do what you sun sign indicates; to take action, to be cautious and stay put or to be flexible and seek more information. A prior administration instructed the bankers to relax their lending practices with regards to home mortgages and look what happened.

(Suggestion) Reread my past Blogs in order to refresh your memory about terminology.

THE ECONOMY

Because of the reckless and improper lending practices of some banks and financial institutions, the United States was faced with a serious economic crisis in October 2008. The Congress acted swiftly and passed a costly “bail-out” program. During this time, the planet Mercury, associated with information, transportation, communications, decision-making and the routine of daily living, was in a retrograde motion. Remember, that a planet in a retrograde motion represents energy that is held back. It also implies that more information is needed; also something has to be reviewed, revised or done over. Now, you can better understand why the bail-out plan did not have an immediate effect. Please note that decisions made under a Mercury retrograde are likely to change, and in deed, we have already seen several alterations to the bail-out program. During this Mercury retrograde, the American people found out some very important information concerning the corruption and manipulation on Wall Street, as well as, the participation of some government agencies. I knew an individual who purchased a car while Mercury was retrograde; every time Mercury went retrograde, the car had a problem, needless to say, the car was sold. The planet Mercury goes retrograde about three times a year for about three weeks. Mercury will go retrograde in Jan., May, Sept. and Dec. of 2009. When Mercury is retrograde, petty annoyances will increase, there will be a tendency to misplace and forget things, communications will be held up, electrical appliances and vehicles will break down. The key here is to stay focused, stay balanced and to keep a proper perspective on life. On the positive side of a Mercury retrograde, you may find those missing papers; catch up on your correspondence, reading and domestic chores. I took my own advice and read my past Blogs and I found and error. The planet Pluto will enter the sign of Capricorn on Nov. 27^th 2008 and will remain in this sign until 2024.

The planet Pluto symbolizes the masses and it has been transiting the sign of Sagittarius for the past twelve years (a zodiac sign always represents the current collective consciousness). Each sign of the zodiac contains 30 degrees and Pluto is in the 29th degree of Sagittarius. The last degree of any sign represents “endings”, frequently associated with fear, sorrow and anxiety. A similar feeling occurs the month before one’s birthday, the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Now, you can better understand why the mass consciousness is one of gloom and doom. Also, I believe that the 29^th degree is a wake up call, a transition point. Did you use your energies constructively while Pluto was in the sign of Sagittarius? The sign Sagittarius is associated with “total freedom”; the freedom to do and say what you want, to spend as much as you want, to eat as much as you want, to drive as much as you want, to talk on your cell phone no matter where or when and to build a house as big as you want, despite the scale of the neighborhood, you get the idea. The last degree of the sign Sagittarius is a good time to review your philosophy and beliefs regarding excess, self discipline and limitations. Besides being associated with finances, Pluto has a lot to do with spiritual values. The world is not only having an economic crisis, but a spiritual crisis as well. Remember we are spiritual beings taking on physical form in order to learn our life lessons. The sign Sagittarius is associated with nature and Pluto with regeneration; observe that the forest that has been ravaged by fire, eventually regenerates itself.

In a past Blog I wrote about how the mass consciousness is calling for major change. Here is something to think about; if the first six signs of the zodiac are really the true signs and the remaining six are a mere reflection in order to seek balance, then it follows that government which is associated with the sign of Capricorn is a mirror reflection of its opposite sign, Cancer associated with the public. If you want a more responsible and less wasteful government, then it follows that the public should lead through example.

The four elements of the zodiac represent four types of life experiences: the fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius experiencing life on an energy plane. The earth signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn experience life on the physical plane. The air signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, all experience life on the mental plane. Last, the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces experience life on the emotional plane. A great book to read is Astrology, Psychology and The Four Elements by Stephen Arroyo.

For the past year, presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton (a Scorpio) has provided the American people with a first-hand look at the attitudes, qualities and characteristics of her zodiac sun sign; tenacious, self disciplined, determined, relentless, persistent and hard working. The horoscope wheel is divided into twelve houses or areas of life, depending upon the date, time and place of birth, an individual will exhibit some characteristics of the sign Scorpio in one or two areas of life. So, in what area of your life, do you act like a Scorpio; marriage, sex, friendships, your daily work routine, philosophy, children, career, finances or some other?

The presidential candidate, John McCain, frequently refers to himself as a “public servant”, and in deed, the sign Virgo represents the one who is devoted, dedicated, diligent, discerning and wants to be helpful to others. The candidate, Barack Obama, was born under the zodiac sign of Leo; a sign associated with creativity, self expression, celebrity and leadership. The Leo loves life, has a zest for living and enjoys taking “center stage”. All sun signs are not a like; however, there are apparent similarities; for example, former president Bill Clinton, also has his zodiac sun sign in Leo. Do you see the similar traits between these two men?

The classic movie “My Reputation” with Barbara Stanwyck is an excellent illustration of how the Capricorn-Cancer polarity is being worked-out. Miss Stanwyck plays a young widow with two young children. In the movie, she is struggling to break away from family traditions and her controlling mother (a great movie for women). In astrology, the sign Capricorn is symbolized by the mountain goat; slowly and cautiously, the goat ascends to the top of the mountain. Respect, reputation and integrity are of paramount importance to the Capricorn. Former president Richard M. Nixon (a Capricorn) climbed to the top of his mountain, only to fall off, through the lack of his integrity, honesty and responsibility, an important lesson for all those who are in a position of authority. President George Bush was born under the sign of Cancer, a sign symbolized in astrology, by that tenacious sea creature, the crab. Cancers avoid confrontation, are private people and have a deep love for their family, home and country. Similar to the crab, which would rather lose its claw than to surrender the food that’s in it, so too, the Cancer, also tenaciously holds on to his ideas, beliefs, investments, businesses and relationships, sometimes to his detriment.

There are several classifications of the twelve Zodiac signs; one of which is the quadruplicities, these signs denote the mode of operation. Visualize a circle divided into four quarters; each quarter contains three pie shaped sections with a zodiac sign assigned to each section or house. The beginning of the horoscope starts at a point that corresponds to the number nine on the face of a clock (this point is referred as the ascendant or rising sign). The first sign and or house of each quadrant is called a cardinal sign or house; it denotes self starting, action, activity and the present. The first sign of the first quadrant Aries-1, Cancer-4 is the first sign of the second quadrant, Libra-7, first sign of the third quadrant and last, Capricorn-10, first of the fourth quadrant. The second sign of each quadrant, Tarus-2, Leo-5, Scorpio-8 and Aquarius-11 are called the fixed signs or houses representing stability, productivity and the past. The third sign of each quadrant, Gemini-3, Virgo-6, Sagittarius-9 and Pisces-12 are called mutable signs or houses denoting versatility, flexibly and the future.

Astrology offers the individual many ways in which to view his life; in the movie “Being There”, the US president gave a speech comparing the “up and down” cycles of the economy to the four seasons of a year in a garden. When the horoscope is divided into four quadrants, it is symbolic of the four seasons. The first season begins with Aries, springtime, when there is new and rapid growth. Cancer represents summer, a time of continual development and growth. The Libra represents the autumn, a time of harvest and fruition, last, winter represented by Capricorn, a time to withdraw and retreat. Think about the season in which you were born, what did the garden look like? Believe it or not, it has a direct bearing on your consciousness.

The Sun highlights the zodiac sign of Capricorn, approximately between December 21st and January 19th. The sign Capricorn is primarily focused on: goals, achievements, success, career, social position, rules, standards, reputation, responsibility, duty, commitment and hard work; in addition, parents, authority, government, public officials, business and the corporate world. The opposite sign of Capricorn is Cancer, a sign primarily focused on: the home, the domestic scene, mother, family, traditions, ancestors, emotional foundation, the proverbial “nest egg”, women, infants, food, feelings and real estate. Both the Capricorn and the Cancer are concerned with security; the Capricorn with his security out in the world, the Cancer with his inner security. The Capricorn-Cancer polarity is working on, amongst other things, balancing the need for privacy with the need to be acknowledged for accomplishments in the outer world. The sign Capricorn represents a collective consciousness that has a serious attitude towards life; one that is realistic, practical, ambitious and austere. The sign Cancer is one of sensitivity, responsiveness, nurturing and intuition.

Any planet that opposes another sign and or planet, brings about; either, awareness, a conflict or a decision. In 2007 the planet Jupiter entered into the sign of Capricorn, thus highlighting those life issues and experiences associated with Capricorn, as well as, the opposite sign of Cancer. The US has a Cancer Sun sign (July 4, 1776). Jupiter represents a type of energy that increases and expands. A zodiac sign that is located directly behind another sign always represents the past; Jupiter came from the previous sign of Sagittarius, a sign associated with risk taking, total freedom and excess. The sign Sagittarius says, “Eat, drink and be merry”. Now that Jupiter is in the sign of Capricorn, a sign that says, “There is no free lunch”, the American people are becoming aware of the consequences of over indulgence. Americans are in a conflict with their government over the wastefulness, over regulations and over taxation. The people of the US are now making decisions regarding their homes, credit cards, loans, eating out, vacations, the use of gasoline and the type of individual they want to lead the country. In January 2008, Pluto entered the sign of Capricorn and will remain there until 2024, except for a retrograde back into the sign Sagittarius between the periods of June 08-November 08. Pluto’s energy is one of great intensity; frequently, associated with economics. Pluto is demanding that the US and its people reexamine their values.

So, you got caught-up in the excitement of the holidays and forgot, what the planet Saturn (focuses on our life lessons), was trying to teach you (revise out-dated systems, become more efficient, address your health issues, pay attention to details, start a diet and a exercise program, organize your important papers, review your financial budget) and in general, get yourself and your life in “good working” order. Well, I have some good news for you; on December 20, 2007, Saturn went RETROGRADE. This is an illusionary motion; however, it is very significant. When a planet goes retrograde, it is saying, stop, wait, let’s go back and let’s review or rethink something over (a good time to keep your eyes and ears open for information). What a retrograde planet is doing is going back over previous degrees. All planets go retrograde, from time to time, except the Sun and the Moon. In 2007, Saturn went retrograde at 8 degrees of Virgo and will continue this motion until it reaches 1 degree of Virgo in May 2008 (1 degree of any sign represents a new beginning). Make the most of this second chance. For the last few years, Saturn was transiting the sign of Leo, a sign associated with: creative expression, children, love, romance, pets, entertainment and investments.

Make two lists; one stating the areas of your life in which you have been successful in meeting your “rightful” responsibilities, and a second list, stating the areas in which there is need for work and improvement.

The planet Saturn also represents focalization, commitment, convention, society, hard work, a serious attitude, reality, austerity, consolidation, as well as, authority and authority figures; such as, parents, clergy, teachers, counselors, coaches, physicians, bosses, commanders, law officials, as well as, elected public officials. As one matures (a function of Saturn), we take back our authority and make decisions for ourselves and for our lives. In the United States (a government by the people and for the people); however the American people, through the years have given up their authority to their elected officials (local, state and federal governments). The fruit of revolution is becoming “ripe”. If the American people desire a major change (a responsive government that is efficient, productive and NOT WASTEFUL); it won’t be enough to just elect a president. What is called for is BOLD ACTION and COURAGE on the part of each individual voter; vote out all incumbents running for reelection in November 2008, no matter what political party or if the individual performed his duties well. This will certainly send a message to our legislators. Let November 4, 2008 be the month, day and year that the American people TAKE BACK THEIR AUTHORITY AND POWER.

SATURN IN VIRGO

Astrology provides the individual with “advance knowledge” about his life experiences; on Sept. 3^rd, the planet Saturn will enter the zodiac sign of Virgo and will remain in this sign until July 2010. When a planet, any planet, transits a sign, it brings in energy resulting in activity and focalization of the areas, issues and people associated with that particular sign. For the sign Virgo, I would like you to consider two words, MAINTENANCE and SERVICE. You have 2 ½ years in which to focus on and improve your health (have a medical and dental check-up, start a exercise program, begin a healthy diet etc.), break bad habits and cultivate some good ones, repair or replace your old or worn out possessions: wardrobe, home, office equipment, car etc., up date and review important documents, look over investments and financial budgets. This is also a time to clean out your medicine cabinet, closets, kitchen cupboards, basement etc., in other words, get yourself and your life IN ORDER. Each planet has its own type of energy; Saturn represents the authority, the task master, not unlike the teacher who demands excellence from his students, “Do it over, until you do it right”. For some individuals, this Saturn period may be difficult; however, whether it is business, government or the individual, Saturn in the sign Virgo teaches time management, discipline, organization and efficiency. Pay attention to small details; read labels, the fine print and don’t forget to ask questions. It is important to learn from this Saturn transit, since the sign Virgo represents the last of the subjective signs; in order to move to the next sign, Libra (dealing with relationships), one must first master his own life (earning a living, paying bills, washing clothes, cleaning house, maintaining ones health and addressing all of the issues associated with the daily routines of living). The sign Virgo has a lot to do with purification; body, mind and spirit. This is a time when our government will face issues regarding: immigration and employment, health conditions of the work environment and maintenance of inter structure.

With regard to SERVICE, each of us are teachers, as well as, students. Share your knowledge interests and talents with others; volunteer in your community, work with animal rescue groups, children, senior citizens and the homeless. Some other areas associated with the sign Virgo are: analyzing information, work, systems, schedules, mathematics, cleanliness, food preparation, matters of employment, natural therapies, foods and products, farming and animal breeding, also scientists, aunts and uncles, teachers, craft people, secretaries, coworkers and those who give service to others. During this Saturn period encourage individuals to do their best and avoid being critical, also remember to voice your appreciation to those who do you a favor or give you help. Have you ever noticed that at the end of August, there is a shift of consciousness? This is a time when people are starting to focus on getting back to a regular routine and children are preparing for school. Yearly, the Sun transits the zodiac sign Virgo for about 30 days; those who are born between August 24-September 23, are said to have a Virgo sun sign.

There are 30 degrees in each of the twelve zodiac signs. The 30 degrees of each sign are divided into three equal sections or DECANTS. When a planet enters a sign and is in the first 10 degrees or first decant; issues or problems associated with that particular sign are highlighted. When the planet moves into the second decant; there is an awareness of these issues and a desire to deal with them. In the last decant, these issues are being addressed and hopefully, resolved.

Since 1995, the planet Pluto, which brings about drastic changes, has been transiting the sign Sagittarius, a sign associated with: freedom, higher education, foreign affairs, communications, travel, religious beliefs, cultural attitudes, prejudice, judgment and the judicial system. Pluto is now in the last degrees of the sign Sagittarius; what changes have you observed with regards to the issues of the sign Sagittarius?

The celestial science of astrology is primarily concerned with ten heavenly bodies, their relationships to each other, their cycles and their connection with humanity. Each planet has its own particular motion, the slowest being that of the planet Pluto. In astrology, the slower moving planets, like Pluto, are called “generational” planets, since groups of people were born having the same planets in the same zodiac signs; thus denoting similar attitudes, experiences and life lesson for a particular generation. When a planet transits a zodiac sign, it activates or highlights the issues associated with that sign, as well as, brings with it the energies and issues from the sign it rules; in the case of Pluto, it is the sign Scorpio. Pluto has a transforming energy; one that brings about drastic changes in one’s life (never more to be the same again). Astrology is rich in symbolism; Pluto represents masses of people, the zodiac sign it is transiting represents the consciousness or focus of these groups of people.

In November of 1995, Pluto entered the zodiac sign of Sagittarius, a sign that is associated with “total” freedom, to do, to say and to think as one pleases. This sign is highly optimistic, mentally and physically active, looks to the future, takes risks, is restless and always on the go, tends to be excessive, over extends and scatters his energies, prefers casual living and loose fitting clothes. This sign is also associated with higher education, large scale media, long distance travel and communications, foreign affairs, the judicial system, athletics, wildlife, religion, philosophy, judgment, ethics, bias, prejudices and cultural beliefs. Pluto in the sign Sagittarius has highlighted the need for moderation, sensitivity and consideration for others. The primary tool of the astrologer is a horoscope; a chart of the heavens showing the locations of
the transiting planets in reference to the twelve zodiac signs. There are many different types of horoscopes; however, the most important, is the natal. Through mathematical calculations, the astrologer erects a natal
horoscope, based upon an individual’s time, date and place of birth (This was a
common practice in ancient times when a royal birth occurred).

The horoscope looks like a wheel divided into twelve wedged shaped sections or houses. Each section or house represents a particular area of life. Inside the chart there are numerous numbers, degrees and astrological symbols scattered throughout, all having significant meaning. The premise in astrology is, “As above, so below”; the planets represent energies, and are reflective of our own energies, the zodiac signs reveal how these energies will be utilized and last, the houses show where these energies will be activated. Each sign has its own ruling planet and has dominion over a specific area of life.

The planetary rulers of the sign Scorpio and of the eighth house are Mars and Pluto. Pluto symbolizes a transforming energy; one that develops, eliminates, regenerates and brings in physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual change; never more to be the same again. Several Scorpio issues are highlighted in the classic movie, “Now Voyager” with Betty Davis (manipulation sex, secrets, inheritance, control, guilt, forgiveness and transformation). The story takes place in the 1940’s, where Betty plays a dowdy spinster living with her wealthy domineering mother. In her late 30’s, Betty has a nervous breakdown because of her over controlling mother. She goes to a sanitarium where a psychiatrist helps her to understand the dynamics of her relationship with her mother and to help her regain her self identity and authority. Betty has a major transformation, beginning with her physical appearance and later in the movie, when she is no longer afraid and has the courage to stand up to her mother’s tyranny. What an inspirational movie!

Astrology is a science that is full of symbolism; the sun, moon and planets all represent different types of energies. Being spiritual beings, we are all made-up of energy, energy patterns and cycles. In a horoscope, there are basically two types of energy patterns, harmonious and inharmonious. Harmonious energy patterns (denoting the positive expression of energy) represent an ease or flow, an opportunity, a talent or ability, while the inharmonious energy patterns (denoting the negative expression of energy) represent challenges, obstacles and life lessons, thus providing the individual with the opportunity to learn, grow and spiritually evolve. The role of the astrologer is to help his client better understand himself, his relationships and life issues.

Assignment 1 Each of us is made-up of two entities; the outer self or personality and the inner self or soul. The job of the personality is to become more conscious and to integrate with his higher self. The personality may find fault with his parents and/or his early childhood, however his soul does not, since the soul is the one who chose the circumstances of birth, the parents, the location (country), the year, day and the time of birth, all for the express purpose of providing the personality with an ancestral lineage of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual traits. The purpose of the family unit is to pass on to the individual his attitudes, beliefs, behavior patterns, character traits and most importantly, his emotional foundation. By becoming conscious of his family’s negative energy patterns and by not repeating these behaviors, the individual can change the direction of the family’s future history. In astrology, the spiritual journey begins with the individual’s Sun Sign, its placement in the natal horoscope, its zodiac sign and its relationship to the other planets. The planets including the Sun and the moon represent different types of energies. The Sun represents: the self, the ego, the will, the consciousness, the focus in life, the drive for significance and most importantly, the spiritual purpose for this incarnation.

Assignment 3

There are many reasons why people enter our lives; such as, to help us during a difficult period in our lives or to support us in some endeavor. However, the main reason is to act as a mirror, in order to reflect our strengths and weaknesses. Isn’t it funny, how individuals can see faults in others but not in themselves? Each of the twelve zodiac signs has their own particular qualities. Read about those signs that are most prevalent in your life. Figure out what qualities you need to develop or let go of; for instance, do you need to let go of resentment, learn self control or need to become more forgiving?

In a horoscope, the moon represents the past, the rising sign or ascendant, the present and the sun, the future. A simple and easy way to fulfill the spiritual purpose for this lifetime is to let go of the negative expression of the moon’s zodiac sign and/or the sign on your natal fourth house cusp. Next using the positive expression of your rising sign, cultivate the qualities of your zodiac sun sign.

Lesson 1 Get out your notebooks

In ancient times, it was observed that those born around the same time of the year shared similar attitudes, behaviors and characteristics. These similarities were grouped into twelve divisions or signs. The twelve signs together, make-up what is known as the zodiac. The tool of the astrologer is a horoscope; a chart of the heavens at a specific time, date and place. The horoscope looks like a circle with twelve pi-shaped sections or houses, representing different areas of life. Through various calculations, the astrologer places degrees and planetary symbols (representing different kinds of energies) in the appropriate houses, thus showing where an individual will place his focus and energies. So, what is the significance of a horoscope? This map of the heavens represents the soul’s plan or agenda for this particular reincarnation (a popular belief of ¾ of the world’s population). Years ago, the singing group, “The Police”, summed it up best, in one of their recordings, entitled “We Are Spirits in a Material World”. The material world is just an illusion; we are all spiritual beings; made up of energy, energy patterns and cycles. The purpose of life is to evolve our consciousness and to learn how to use our energies more constructively. Events that occur outside of our physical bodies are merely symbols for what is happening inside of us, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. For instance, when a person is frustrated, he is more likely to injure himself or have an accident, thus showing the physical manifestation of his internal frustration

COME, VIEW YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE ASTRO WINDOW

Recently, I had an opportunity to view the classic movie, “Splendor In The Grass”, with Natalie Wood. The theme of the movie was the impact of a family’s values and beliefs upon its offspring.

ASSIGNMENT 1.

Make a list of the things that you liked and didn’t like about your mother, father and early childhood.

ASSIGNMENT 2.

Read about your zodiac sun sign, and then make a list of the positive and negative qualities of the sign.

ASSIGNMENT 3.

Take note of the people who have entered your life and their zodiac signs.

ASSIGNMENT 4. For the astrology buff

Write down your sun, moon and rising sign; give the positive and negative _expression of each.
